Important Marathon Update
Dear Participants,
We’re deeply sorry to share that the OBX Marathon Weekend (Fun Run, 5k, 8k, Half Marathon, Marathon, and Expo) November 8–9 2025 has been canceled due to the ongoing government shutdown. Unfortunately, we do not have access to the necessary government officials required on site or for road closures; as well as crowd control to ensure a safe event.
If you’ve made any travel or lodging arrangements, please be sure to cancel them as soon as possible.
We know this is incredibly disappointing — for you, for our volunteers, and for our community who look forward to welcoming runners each fall. Thank you sincerely for registering and for your continued support of Outer Banks Sporting Events. As a token of our appreciation, all registered participants will receive a 40% discount toward any future OBSE race in 2026.
We understand how disappointing and frustrating this news is, and we truly share in your irritation. As noted in our longstanding Deferral and Refund Policy, all registrations are final and non-transferable, and we are unable to issue refunds or deferrals, even in the event of cancellation.
We are truly grateful for your understanding and for being part of the OBSE family. This decision was not made lightly, and we hope to see you back at the start line very soon. Although we’re disappointed not to celebrate with everyone this November, we are already looking ahead to future OBSE events — and we truly hope you’ll be part of them.
Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and continued support of Outer Banks Sporting Events. Our racing community means everything to us.
With appreciation,
Outer Banks Sporting Events Team.

The mission of the Outer Banks Sporting Events is to organize sporting events and competitions, promote healthy living lifestyles, and provide financial resources for needed relief and education, all while contributing to the economic health of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Outer Banks running events have become very popular, due, in part, to the legendary beauty of the area. But the athletes who run Outer Banks races also have come to expect the kindness of support that they receive from the residents during their time here. Of course, many locals run these races too, and plenty of friendships have been forged along the miles. But let's not forget the after-race parties! They are a big draw for the fun and comradery that come as a natural part of the euphoria (and beer!) after each race. Lots of participants add to the festivities by dressing up for these Outer Banks runs: leprechauns, pirates and tutus (just because!), so feel free to express yourself while you're putting in those miles. To assure your place in these Outer Banks races, be sure to register early! And, by the way, plenty of our participants are walkers, so if you're new to these events, we want you to know that you'll feel just as much a part of the races as the runners do.
PLEASE NOTE! You MUST have your PHOTO ID or a BEER BAND to enter the post-race Beer Garden. Beer Bands can be acquired during each race's packet pick-up.
