We hope your running motivation has been rolling right along.  We know as well as anyone that it can be a true test without races on your calendar as a goal.

As we work with state and local officials to aim for the safest agreements and allowances, we will keep you informed of updates concerning The 2021 Outer Banks Marathon Weekend in November.

Best in Running,

Below is 2020 VIRTUAL MARATHON INFORMATION-please use as a reference only.

Best in running,

ALL EVENTS in The 2020 TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon Weekend are now VIRTUAL!

With the live racing scene turned upside-down.  We continue to be surprised and delighted by the energy, connectivity and fun created by participating in our Virtual Events.

An event for all ages and for the inner explorer in all of us, this year, in 2020, we celebrate the 15th running of the Outer Banks Marathon.  Even though we cannot gather in person for our start line-we hope you keep your inspiration and focus on YOUR run.

Maybe you will still come to the Outer Banks and run your distance here?  Perhaps you'll scope out a great newly discovered course in your area!  Wherever you complete your distance-know that others too are putting their training to the test in a socially- safe setting.  Keeping control of our fitness and goals will soon have us safely emerge on the other side, back too live racing-and we can't wait!

You will have the month of November to complete your event.  Distances include :

Full 26.2/Half 13.1/8K/5K/Southern 6mi./1 mile Fun Run

Challenges: Full Marathon & 5K/ Full Marathon & 8K/ Half Marathon & 5K/ Half Marathon & 8K

The following is an update sent 10/11/20 to our current registrants:

To all of our TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon Weekend Friends:

Today we learned that we do not have the permits necessary to execute our simplified 5K & 13.1 mile planned event.  The other weekend distances of the TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon Weekend had already been made virtual.  The 5K and the Half Marathon distances, along with the 2- day Challenge, will now default to virtual races as well.

We are extremely sad and perhaps a bit deflated after exhausting all efforts to make all parties involved feel secure in permitting us to go live. So many of you have become our friends and part of our running family.  We wanted nothing more than to bring you a safe and enjoyable event.  However,  all involved supportive parties must feel secure in this decision.

The State of North Carolina and Dare County continue to work through the challenged presented by COVID-19. The health and safety of our participants and volunteers always comes first.

This is a an important time to keep each other motivated and positive for the recovery of all endurance events as well as those affected by the pandemic. We thank you for your support of Outer Banks Sporting Events, The Dare Education Foundation and The Outer Banks Relief Foundation.

Please Note: As a community 501(c)3, it is not feasible to offer refunds. In race planning, certain fixed costs made months and often up to a year ahead of the race are unrecoverable. We understand and sympathize with how the pandemic has affected our athletes and your investments in events.

The financial impact of the pandemic crisis has also been felt deeply at OBSE.

Let's stay safe and run on ,so that in the near future we can again gather, celebrate our endurance and continue our mission!
