Dear 2025 Outer Banks Marathon Weekend Participants,
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have taken time to regroup and reassess the next steps following the cancellation of the 2025 event. Our team has worked diligently to determine the best way to honor your commitment and participation.
We are pleased to share that all registered runners will be offered a complimentary deferral to the 2026 TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon Weekend, which also marks our 25th Anniversary Celebration. The event will take place November 6–8, 2026, and will include the Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K/5K, and the Color Fun Run.
Deferral Details
If You Choose Not to Defer
For those who prefer not to participate in the 2026 event, we will be happy to send your 2025 medals and participant swag directly to you. Additional instructions for this option will be included with your deferral code email.

The OBX Towne Bank Marathon is the oldest continuously running road race in the Outer Banks! The marathon course is fast and flat, which makes it the perfect place for your first marathon or even your own personal record! Participants will enjoy the gorgeous natural scenery along the course as it twists and turns across the islands of the Outer Banks. Spectators line up to cheer on all the athletes and as you cross the finish line, the party is right there waiting for you! The post-race celebration will feature live music and entertainment, as well as excellent southern barbecue (free for all runners!) and an awesome beer garden for all those 21+.
There will also be plenty of family-friendly, exciting activities to celebrate a race well run. OBXSE will be hosting a two-day sports and fitness expo where packet pick up will happen before the race. Participants will be given a race t-shirt along with our finisher items.
The Outer Banks Marathon Weekend features many different options for events to race in. Not only is there the Towne Bank Marathon, but also the Half Marathon and the Surf Pediatrics Surf & Soar 5K, 8K and COLOR Fun Run.
