Outer Banks Sporting Events, Meet Manteo Cyclery, the Official Bike Support Mechanic of the Outer Banks Triathlon

It’s race day! And triathletes have a lot to think about like swim gear, bike gear, run gear, nutrition and transition times. Among other things, these athletes need to be sure their bike is safe to ride, meets all the requirements for the race and is generally roadworthy.

If something simple is missed, like a handlebar end cap, an athlete may be disqualified.

Enter Brian Brockway, owner/operator of Manteo Cyclery located at  627 US-64, Manteo, NC. Brian, who has helped out Outer Banks Sporting Events during the OBX Cycle Race last year has partnered with OBSE as the triathlons official Bike Support Mechanic, ensuring it’s athletes are off to a strong and safe start leaving T1 for their perspective distances.

Manteo Cyclery was opened in April of 2014. “I’ve always wanted to own my own business and be my own boss,” Brian says.

Brian has a passion for bikes and loves working with his hands. He added that he didn’t realize what a need he filled in the community when he opened the business. “…I’m learning this more and more every day!” He commented.

The shop does all kinds of repairs and offers sales and rentals on all kinds of bikes from fat-tire bikes, road and cruiser bikes to mountain bikes and more. With plenty of accessories as well, Brian has something from everyone, whether you are just getting started or are a serious cyclist. Manteo Cyclery branded t-shirts are now being offered in the shop as well!

When Brian is not working, you can most likely find him out on the bike himself, going for long multi-day trips that he calls “Bike-Packing”. These trips can cover hundreds of miles, only lending to Brian’s knowledge as a helpful resource when back at the shop. His longest ride at one time was a 200 miler (Double Century) ride on the C&O Canal that took about 19 hours to complete.

Brian can be contacted at 252-305-0306 and you can visit them online at manteocyclery.com and on Facebook & Instagram.

We’d like to welcome Manteo Cyclery to the OBSE family and thank them for what they are doing in our community for the athletes here locally and abroad.
