Registration

No, unfortunately the last chance to register is one day before the event. Registration closes one hour before the Race Expo closes. You must pick up your packet before the day of your event. There is no packet pick up on race day.
Online registration can be found on our website here.
The race you choose to participate in will determine the specific finisher medal you will receive. All finishers will receive a race t-shirt, a medal, and a few other finisher items/swag.

If you won’t make it on race day, you can choose from the following options:

  • Transfer your bib to someone else
  • Switch your registered event

Deferrals are not offered. For information, click here.

No, Outer Banks Sporting Events does not issue refunds under any circumstances. No exceptions. Not even in the event of a race cancellation.

Expo & Packet Pick-Up

Info about packet pick-up for the 2025 Flying Pirate Half Marathon is TBA.

The expo and packet pick-up will take place on Friday, April 11 from 1-7 p.m. and Saturday, April 12 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Please note: There will be no packet pick-up on race day.
If you are unable to pick up your own race packet, you may authorize another person to pick up your packet/bib number. The authorized individual MUST have their own photo ID, a signed and printed authorization form, and a copy of the participant’s photo ID. The signed authorization form MUST be printed, we will NOT accept any authorization via phone, text message, or any other electronic device. The copy of the photo ID may be via text, email, or photocopy. If the authorized individual is missing any of these items, we will not release the packet/bib number, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Race Information

Races on both Saturday and Sunday will start and finish at the Wright Brothers Memorial.
Yes, there will be plenty of space to view the finish line. We suggest arriving to the finish line early to ensure a good spot. We also invite you to stay after the race and enjoy our post-race party.
Yes, especially for our 21+ partygoers who may want to enjoy the beer garden. A photo of your ID on your phone is acceptable in lieu of a physical copy.
Yes. We award the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place male and female runners in each race category.
After the races are all run, results will be posted on www.itsyourrace.com.
Yes, there will be port-a-potties approximately every two miles along the course adjacent to the water stations.
Yes, there will be hydration stations approximately every two miles along the course that include Gu energy gels, Gatorade, Pickle Juice and water.
The Fun Run is open to all ages. Participants of the 5K or 8K you must be 10 years and older. All other race events are 16+.
For safety reasons, headphones are not allowed.
No baby joggers, strollers or pets are permitted in any OBSE races or events.
Yes. The limit for the half marathon will be 4 hours.
Yes, there will be pacers along the course to help you achieve your race goals.

General Information

We recommend you arrive at least 45 minutes before the race, however this is up to your discretion. Showing up five minutes prior to your event start will not work.
In April the average temperature hangs between 69° / 51°. Expect some cloudy skies, and there may be a possibility of rain.
The 8K is on Saturday, April 12 at 7:30 a.m. The 5K and Fun Run are on Saturday, April 12 at 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., respectively. Awards will be at 9 a.m. Then on Sunday, April 13 at 7 a.m., the half marathon starts in waves.
There will be designated parking for runners and spectators at the First Flight schools:

Elementary School: 107 Veterans Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC
Middle School: 109 Veterans Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC
High School: 100 Veterans Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC

The finish of the race will be at the Wright Brothers Memorial which is right by the First Flight schools.
